Welcome to our homestead. Our journey began with a love of chickens. We began with three, one for each child. After moving to a place with more land, we decided to add 8 chickens. Those 8 became 20 because, chicken math. I began to realize that colored eggs were a fun thing to collect and wanted all of the pretty colors! We have since begun breeding chickens for egg colors. Opening the coop to find beautiful shades of blues and greens, pinks and browns still brings an uncanny amount of happiness!
Our goats began as a necessity. One of our kiddos has an allergy to cow’s milk and needs goat milk instead. Since we had the space we figured, “Why not?” So, we learned to raise and milk goats! Again, it started small with two, a doe and her doeling. Of course, we realized we would need more milk than what we were getting from the one goat. To do that, we needed a buck! See where this is going? Much like chicken math, the goats began to multiply as well. Now we have more milk than we know what to do with and look forward to finding fun ways to use it and begin creating our own unique soaps.
Of course, how could we call ourselves a homestead without gardens? Along with our vegetable gardens, we have spent time adding fruit trees and bushes all around our property and will begin a special project this year, a tea garden! Teas are kind of a staple in our home and are enjoyed as much for their flavor as they are their medicinal properties. We always enjoy finding new ways to blend our herbs for tasty teas!
Slowly, we are adding to the chaos, learning as we go. You will find that there is always a new project happening around here. We truly sharing our love of our animals with others and are so happy you have found us!
